Hyperscale Data Centers Reached over 390 Worldwide in 2017

Hyperscale operators are defined as enormous companies like Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google that need to provide computing on a massive scale. You would think that there would be a limited number of this type of highly specialized data center, but recent research from Synergy Research found that 2017 was actually a breakout year for new hyperscale data centers across the world — with no sign of slowing down in 2018.

The lifecycle of a data center is measured in decades, yet the tech that’s inside is changing constantly. “Today’s data centers are really out of sync with the equipment that’s inside them. It would be like using the enclosure for a 1984 Macintosh with the current generation of iMac. It just doesn’t jive very well. The power, cooling and space requirements have all morphed,” says Jennifer Cooke, research director for IDC's datacenter trends and strategies team
Data Center Acquisitions Soared to a Record High in 2017

The latest report from Synergy estimates that the total volume of data center M&A deals in 2017 reached $20 billion. Forty-eight transactions closed last year – three more than in 2015 and 2016 combined.

PX2 and PX3 PDUs are End-Of-Life and End-Of-Support (EOL)
